Oct 26, 2011A remarkable event took place at the New York Society for Ethical Culture between September 30 and October 1, 2011. Jon Kabat-Zinn, the creator of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction and his long time collaborator, Saki Santorelli, organized an event to explore the penetration of Mindfulness in different societal environments.
Four organizations intimately involved in promoting mindfulness brought together 500 participants from across the continent to hear the presenters, while 5,000 around the world watched online. What was truly impressive was the diversity of the environments in which mindfulness functions and contributes to their success. They included:
- Youth programs in high crime communities
- Leadership programs in international corporations
- The U.S. military
- Financial advisors
- The U.S. Congress
- Nursing
- Judicial system (lawyers and judges)
Written synopses of the talks are also available for interested readers.
