Course Description

This course will help guide participants through the application of current psychedelic-assisted therapy approaches to mood and anxiety disorders, post-traumatic stress, substance use disorders, and distress associated with end-of-life care. As the second course in the certification pathway, this course will require learners to apply core skills learned in the Fundamentals of Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy, in the context of various health conditions.

In this 6-week program, you will learn how to approach various health conditions using psychedelic-assisted therapy skills and tools through case-based learning. The cases will explore decision making regarding what medicine and psychotherapeutic approaches may be most appropriate in specific contexts. We will focus on four key indications: Mood and anxiety disorders, post-traumatic stress, substance use disorders, and distress associated with chronic and serious illnesses.

Module 1: Transdiagnostic Perspectives

In this module, we apply the Numinus care model to critically evaluate the shortcomings of the DSM and other models to demonstrate the importance of applying a transdiagnostic approach.

Module 2: Mood and Anxiety Disorders

Throughout this module, we will compare depressive and anxiety disorders using a transdiagnostic lens. We will also look at how psychedelic-assisted therapy can help with the treatment of these disorders.

Module 3: Post-Traumatic Stress

In this module, we will look at how post-traumatic stress disorder is diagnosed in the DSM. We will also look at common comorbidities, transdiagnostic considerations, and PTS outside of DSM criteria.

Module 4: Chronic and Serious Illness

In this module, we will explore chronic and serious illness. Unlike treating other mental health conditions, chronic and serious illness doesn’t seek to treat the underlying condition or the symptoms.

Module 5: Substance Use Disorders

We will look at some first-hand accounts of people who have struggled with a substance use disorder and subsequently underwent psychedelic-assisted therapy.

Module 6: Post-Traumatic Stress and Complex Cases

In our final module of the course, we will revisit transdiagnostic criteria in the context of complex PTS and solidifying this concept for your practice moving forward.
