Therapy & Psychotherapy

One-on-one meetings with a mental health professional with the goal of emotional expression, self-discovery, and  improving aspects of your life.

What is Psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy, also known as talk therapy or counselling, is a professional relationship that helps you improve your mental health and achieve your goals. Therapy normally takes the form of a guided conversation between you and your chosen therapist. Working together, you may develop skills and strategies needed to effectively manage difficult thoughts, emotions, and behaviours, allowing you to navigate any challenges and find inner strength.

Our therapists bring a trauma-informed and culturally sensitive lens to everyone they support, working first and foremost to ensure you feel safe and heard. We’re here for you and can help you find a Numinus therapist who’s the right fit for you. To learn more, book a free informational call with one of our health navigators.

Who is it for?

Psychotherapy can benefit anyone looking to heal and grow, especially those who are:

  • struggling with a life transition
  • feeling the stress of work or home life
  • looking to maintain their overall mental health
  • wanting a deeper understanding of yourself and others
  • currently feeling the impact of a traumatic event or series of traumatic events
  • diagnosed with a chronic illness

Our licensed therapists can help those struggling with a range of mental health conditions:

In the event of an emergency, it’s crucial to seek help as soon as possible. The Talk Suicide Helpline is available 24/7 to provide support and resources.

You can access this service by calling 1-833-456-4566 or texting 45645.

In the case of an immediate danger to yourself or others, calling 911 should be your first course of action.

How Does It Work?

Your therapist will start by getting a thorough understanding of your background, your mental health history, current struggles, and goals. They will then develop a personalized therapy plan to meet your needs. Your therapist may work with several therapeutic approaches and figure out what resonates the most with you. During your sessions, your therapist can help you work through repressed emotions, reframe situations in your life, and develop coping strategies.

Therapy helps to get to the root cause of struggles. It has been shown to improve emotional and psychological well-being and is linked with positive changes in the brain and body. About 75% of those who try psychotherapy benefit from it.

Your therapist will likely recommend a treatment plan with a set number of sessions. How frequently you will need to attend therapy and how many sessions are needed will be based on your goals and the challenges you’re experiencing. It’s important to note that your therapy journey is completely your own - some people choose to continue therapy consistently for mental health maintenance, others may choose to do therapy only when they need to work on a specific issue.
