Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy

An effective psychotherapy method using memory and bilateral stimulation to help people recover from trauma and PTSD.

What is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy is a structured form of therapy designed to help people recover from traumatic experiences. This type of therapy is based on the idea that the mind can heal from psychological trauma in much the same way that the body can recover from physical trauma.

Studies have shown that EMDR therapy can be a highly effective tool for treating trauma. Unlike other treatments which focus on emotions, EMDR therapy is focused on the memory, and is intended to change the way that the memory is stored in the brain, thus reducing and eliminating the problematic symptoms. Common Conditions Treated

In the event of an emergency, it’s crucial to seek help as soon as possible. The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, also known as the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, is available 24/7 to provide support and resources.

You can access this service by dialing 988 or by calling 1-800-273-8255.

In the case of an immediate danger to yourself or others, calling 911 should be your first course of action.

How Does It Work?

During EMDR therapy, clients are encouraged to focus briefly on a traumatic memory while also experiencing bilateral stimulation such as eye movements. This stimulation is thought to reduce the vividness and emotional intensity of the traumatic memory.

EMDR therapy helps to remove the blocks that are preventing healing, so that you can start to move forward and live a happier life. During therapy, a trained clinician will use specific protocols and procedures to help activate your natural healing process.
