Psychedelic Integration

A type of therapy that can help you unpack and understand psychedelic experiences.

What is Psychedelic Integration?

Psychedelic experiences can be transformational due to the shifts in perspectives and discoveries they can cause. Intentional reflection in the days and weeks following a psychedelic experience can help you maximize the benefits.

A trained therapist can help you to process what came up during your psychedelic experience and leverage the insights to better your well-being. Integration can include therapeutic approaches (such as Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing, and Somatic Therapy) and activities (like meditation, going for a walk, journaling, and listening to music). Similar to how psychedelic experiences are unique for each individual, integration looks different for everyone.

Research has shown that integration can help to create greater balance and wholeness, both internally (mind, body, and spirit) and externally (lifestyle, social relations, and the natural world). Who it’s for

Individuals making the conscious decision to use psychedelics in their personal life, including those who:

  • want more information on safety
  • want help preparing for an experience
  • want support in better understanding their psychedelic experience.

Psychedelic Integration can benefit both those new to psychedelics and those with experience.

In the event of an emergency, it’s crucial to seek help as soon as possible. The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, also known as the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, is available 24/7 to provide support and resources.

You can access this service by dialing 988 or by calling 1-800-273-8255.

In the case of an immediate danger to yourself or others, calling 911 should be your first course of action.

How Does It Work?

If you’re planning a psychedelic experience, we can support you through careful preparation to help you maximize the benefits and reduce harm.

After your psychedelic experience, meet with one of our therapists to make meaning, gain insights, and use the learnings to create positive change. You can work with your therapist as needed through the arc of your psychedelic journey.

Group Integration Circles

Our FREE monthly Psychedelic Integration Circles provide a welcoming and safe environment for you to process and make sense of your journey alongside other like-minded individuals.

Frequently
Asked
Questions

What is psychedelic harm reduction & integration?

Psychedelic harm reduction and integration (PHRI) is a therapeutic framework and psychoeducation for addressing various kinds of psychedelic use. It brings together harm reduction practices around substance use more generally, and an emphasis on the importance of “integration” work around psychedelic use more specifically.

It does not involve the use of any psychedelic medicines; rather, it represents the support that a therapist or coach might provide to an individual who has had or intends to have psychedelic experiences on their own, outside of therapy. For example, an individual who is exploring the use of psilocybin mushrooms may seek the support of an integration specialist to help them plan for experiences they undertake on their own, to minimize risks and increase the likelihood of positive outcomes.

PHRI therapists do not refer clients to underground therapists, and are in no way involved with the sourcing of psychedelic substances, nor do they conduct therapy while individuals are under the influence of psychedelics.

Why do you offer Psychedelic Integration?

We’re proud to be at the forefront of making innovative and safe psychedelic-assisted therapy treatments accessible and legally available to those who need them. However, we also recognize that some people may use psychedelic substances without the proper support. Our intention in offering psychedelic integration is to provide education and harm reduction for those who have already had a psychedelic experience and need help integrating that experience into their lives.

Are psychedelics legal now?

Except for ketamine, which is legal in a medical setting, most psychedelic substances are regulated and can only be legally accessed through clinical trials or through special government approvals. However, the social and political climate around psychedelic medicines is changing as research continues to demonstrate clear benefits to those suffering with mental illness.

It is important for medical and public health care practitioners to provide information about ways of reducing harm for persons who use substances. We are aware that psychedelic use is increasing, and that many people require support.

Can I be under the influence of psychedelics during an integration session?

No. Psychedelic harm reduction and integration sessions are intended to help individuals benefit from past psychedelic experiences, or plan for safe future use. They are not intended as exploratory sessions. If you are interested in psychedelic-assisted therapy sessions, please see our ketamine-assisted therapy page.
