The Numinus Certification Pathway

Numinus has carefully curated a learning pathway for diverse professionals providing psychedelic services to clients. Our pathway has been designed with busy practitioners in mind, offering various cohorts and scheduling options for each course requirement.

The pathway develops core psychedelic-assisted therapy skills through multi-modal teaching methods including interactive evidence and theory reviews, audio-visual design, case-based learning, experiential learning, in-person shadowing opportunities, and more.

The below certification pathway will equip practitioners with the necessary skillset required to deliver quality care and increases credibility and trust with clients. Numinus Wellness has been approved by the following accreditation bodies:

  • L'ordre des psychologues du Québec (OPQ)
  • Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA)

Yes, just be mindful of the time zones! Please also note that daylight savings time in North America typically comes into effect on different dates than some other parts of the world. 

Many of courses do not have prerequisites, however some of the courses that are later in the certification pathway require some foundational knowledge and skills. Applied Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy and Practical Applications of Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy must be taken in the correct order in the pathway in order to progress through to certification.

No, our courses are open to all mental health practitioners. However, familiarity with therapeutic approaches will be an asset.

Our programs leverage the following key learning formats, blended in a way that offers flexibility and accessibility while encouraging knowledge retention with adult learners:

 

Online pre-work through an LMS platform

This is where learners become familiar with the theory and evidence reviews, introduce concepts through video format, engage in activities and applications of content, and test learning through knowledge checks.

 

Live classes through Zoom

In the live classes, learners get to apply their skills in real time in small group breakouts, see live demonstrations of key therapy skills, conceptualize treatment through real case-based scenarios, and build community among like-minded providers.

 

Small group assignments

In some courses, learners are matched with a small group to practice homework assignments and provides a safe space to ask questions and review content with colleagues.

Numinus offers high-quality training in an accessible format. We provide the one stop shop for comprehensive training to move providers into practice in this field, including experiential learning opportunities. We have designed our requirements around current legislative requirements in Canada and the US, contributing to our credible reputation in the industry. Every course includes Numinus practitioners that help to foster our highly practical learning environments, as they share their real-life experiences in providing integrative and transformative mental wellness to our clients here at Numinus. All Numinus learners will be trained to utilize key therapist skills that are rooted in mindfulness, somatic, and trauma-informed approaches.

We practice what we preach in training – everything you learn in our programs are tried and true methods that we use in our Numinus clinics across Canada and the USA.

Most of the Numinus training offerings are open and available to non-regulated professionals. We highly encourage participation from empowered individuals that want to explore a career in this field, although learners should be aware that our courses are designed for professionals. If you are a regulated professional, it is your responsibility to follow the regulatory guidelines and scope of practice applicable to you.

Numinus has two different options for learners that are unsure about how far they want to take their training in this field:

1 – Register in our Psychedelic Harm Reduction and Integration course to learn about some of the ways you can support clients with their own journeys, while not diving too far into offering psychedelic-assisted therapy yourself yet. The total time commitment in this course is 10 hours, so it’s a low-commitment option for new providers to dip a toe into training.

2 – Our certification pathway is structured using cohorts, meaning learners can get a certificate for completing each individual component and can stop at any point in the pathway when they feel their training goals have been met. Learners can start with Fundamentals of PAT or Molecular Foundations and will receive certificates for those courses, regardless of their decision to pursue full certification or not.

Numinus is an official training partner of MAPS, and our training pathway will qualify providers for MDMA-assisted therapy. We’ve built in strong alignment with the MAPS protocol and their guiding principles and can offer the experiential training hour requirement outlined by MAPS. All providers, at any level, will be challenged to learn something new and apply skills in a new way throughout all of our courses. In Fundamentals of PAT, you will likely be matched with a small group that have very different experiences from you and you’ll be challenged to discuss cases and approaches with colleagues that will offer fresh perspectives and new strategies for you to apply in your own work. There are also opportunities to volunteer for live demos with our expert-level instructors, which is a rich opportunity to take your knowledge to the next level, given its tailored to your current abilities and willingness to dive into the exercise.

Further, the psychedelic landscape is shifting incredibly rapidly, which means new research, models, and approaches are developing and continuously becoming available. Numinus programs stay on the cutting edge of science and will help to ensure you have up-to-date education in the field. Highly successful providers in this field will be the ones who prioritize continuing education in their practice and want to align with the current evidence-based approaches.
