Christina Thomas, PA-C

Christina Thomas’s practice and approach as a psychiatric physician’s assistant is influenced by her previous career as a social worker. Prior to PA school, Christina worked in psychology as a cognitive behavioral therapist. While in this position, she researched mood disorders and pain with the University of Texas at Arlington. Wanting to become more adept with psychiatric assessments, she moved on to work in an Emergency Department at Texas Health Resources Hospital in Dallas, TX. Here, she administered psychiatric and chemical dependency assessments and provided crisis intervention, treatment planning, and resource coordination for multiple populations including refugees, pregnant teens and those affected by mental health conditions, sexual assault, trauma and grief. Christina attended PA school at the University of Utah to further her career in psychiatry. Followering her study, she began working at Sacred Circle Healthcare where she practiced both primary care and psychiatry for an underserved population. These clients included homeless patients, those recently placed in subsidized housing with severe mental illness and substance abuse issues, and American Indian/Alaskan Native patients. At Sacred Circle Healthcare, she worked as the sole medical provider in clinic and integrated patient care plans with case managers and therapists on site. The majority of her time is spent practicing psychiatry. This includes psychiatric assessments, medical treatment plans, and patient care for severe mental illness (including severe mood, schizoaffective, and schizophrenic disorders) and addiction. Many of the patients Christina works with deal with substance abuse issues, particularly methamphetamine, heroin, and alcohol abuse. Outside of work, she enjoys reading (especially science fiction), cooking, and camping.
