Susan Smith, PMHNP-BC

Susan has been a nurse for over 30 years. She spent most of her nursing career at the Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, DC, where she gained a broad range of patient care experience, including medication management, behavioral emergency responder, development of patient behavioral plans, multidisciplinary family therapy, and assessment of psychiatric impatient and transfer needs. She earned her Master of Nursing Practice degree from the University of Maryland in 2016 and has worked as an educator, nurse practitioner and staff nurse, to support children, adolescents, and young adults with mental health issues while hospitalized. Susan has extensive experience working with youth and young adults who experience acute mental health crises, depression, anxiety, mood disorders, developmental disorders, schizophrenia, personality disorders, PTSD, and eating disorders. She is passionate about helping individuals and families understand mental health disorders and options for treatment. Her approach to recovery is collaborating with individuals to develop strength-based treatment goals using a holistic, bio-psycho-social model of care.
