About Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a mindfulness-based, cognitive-behavioral therapy proven to be effective in treating depression and anxiety. The therapy involves learning skills to reduce the impact of difficult thoughts and feelings, identifying what brings meaning to life, and taking steps to align with those values.

In ACT, the emphasis is on accepting thoughts and feelings in the present moment, rather than trying to change them. The therapy views psychological distress as resulting from avoidance or evaluation of thoughts and feelings. This can lead to negative thinking patterns that interfere with one’s ability to live according to their values. ACT aims to help individuals accept what they can’t control and focus on taking control of what they can to improve their quality of life.
