Baseline Concussion Testing
Baseline tests are used to assess an athlete’s balance and brain function as well as to look for the presence of any concussion symptoms. Results from baseline tests can be used and compared to a similar exam by a health care professional during the season if an athlete has a suspected concussion. This allows athletes, coaches, and families to feel confident in concussion diagnosis and treatment.
Our team has developed a comprehensive baseline concussion testing program to optimize care for our clients. Using the results of baseline concussion testing, our practitioners can return clients to sports and day-to-day activities safely.
Physiotherapy
Physiotherapists are registered health care providers that help people affected by injury, illness, or disability through movement and exercise, manual therapy, education, and counselling. Our physiotherapists have expertise in concussion, persistent post-concussive symptoms, and chronic headaches. They can help clients return to physical activity and sports.

About Concussions
A concussion is a brain injury caused by a sudden acceleration of the head and neck resulting from a blow or contact to the body. Concussions can occur from many different activities, including falls, motor vehicle collisions, sports, or being struck by an object. Symptoms can appear immediately or, in some cases, days following the initial injury. Prompt diagnosis and treatment of concussions are essential, including cognitive and physical rest for 24–48 hours afterward. Most people who sustain a concussion begin to feel better and symptoms start to lessen within a few days to weeks after the concussion. There is, however, a small percentage of the population whose symptoms can persist for months or longer. This is called post-concussion syndrome (PCS).
At Numinus, our team members have a variety of expertise and deliver specialized programs such as baseline concussion testing, medical clearance for professional combat sports athletes, and Family Health Teams (FHT) Collaborative Concussion rehabilitation.
FHT Collaborative Concussion Rehabilitation
The Family Health Team (FHT) Concussion Rehabilitation Program is a collaborative approach between primary care teams in Ontario and the occupational therapy team at Numinus to provide virtual concussion rehabilitation services.
Clients access a structured 4-week virtual concussion program to facilitate recovery and return to daily activities.
Medical Clearance for Combat Sport Athletes
Numinus provides professional and amateur combat sport athletes, such as boxers and MMA fighters, with medical assessments to officially clear them for participation in sport as mandated by the province of Ontario.
We complete first-time applicants, license renewal forms, and assessments of abnormal head imaging scans.
