Group Therapy

A form of psychotherapy where one or two therapists guide multiple individuals through emotional exploration, together in a shared setting.

What is Group Therapy?

Group Therapy harnesses the power of collective experiences to provide participants with insights, feedback, and support. This form of psychotherapy allows a group of participants to benefit from diverse perspectives, finding hope and a sense of belonging through shared challenges and emotional growth. Though some may feel intimidated by the idea of speaking with strangers, the therapists and other participants work together to create an environment where everyone feels safe and cared for.

We’re here to support you and connect you to others who may deeply understand what you’re going through. To learn more about Group Therapy at Numinus, book a free informational call with one of our health navigators.

Who is it for?

Those experiencing a variety of  conditions, including:

You may benefit from group therapy, if you:

  • are feeling alone in your mental health journey
  • desire the mutual understanding and shared experiences of peers
  • seek a safe and structured environment to practice interpersonal skills, communicate effectively, and build relationships
  • are looking for a cost-effective treatment option
  • want to reduce feelings of isolation and seek validation

In the event of an emergency, it’s crucial to seek help as soon as possible. The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, also known as the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, is available 24/7 to provide support and resources.

You can access this service by dialing 988 or by calling 1-800-273-8255.

In the case of an immediate danger to yourself or others, calling 911 should be your first course of action.

How Does It Work?

Combining the structure of therapy with the support of a community helps to enhance the therapeutic process. For generations across time, across cultures, and across the world, healing has happened in groups, when we witness others' vulnerabilities and are witnessed in this process. The group dynamic allows you to feel supported and seen, especially by others who are going through something similar. Listening to the unique experiences of others can provide learnings and new perspectives, allowing you to go deeper in your own self reflection.

The Process

Here's what you can anticipate from group therapy:

Step 1: Connect

Before you embark on your group therapy journey, you'll undergo a thorough intake to ensure the group is the right fit for you and your goals. We often offer group therapy that covers specific themes (like dealing with grief) or for certain conditions (like chronic illnesses)

Once you're welcomed into the group, the therapist will establish the rules of engagement, ensuring a safe, confidential, and respectful environment.

Step 2: Explore

In a predetermined number of sessions, you'll share feelings, experiences, and challenges, drawing from the collective wisdom of your peers. Under the guidance of trained therapists, you'll delve into specific issues, process emotional responses, and receive feedback, all within a supportive communal setting.

Step 3: On-going Support

Within the group therapy setting, your therapist will be consistently attentive to your development, ensuring the approach aligns with your needs. As the sessions conclude, they'll reevaluate your progress and recommend next-step options on your journey.
