Dr. Darren Stolow, Senior Psychologist
Senior Psychologist
Something sacred occurs when an individual feels safe enough to share their inner world with someone they trust, particularly when they are vulnerable. I consider it a heroic act to face one’s full self in the presence of another. My role and privilege is to earn and preserve your trust, and to accept and meet you exactly how and where you are.
Dr. Stolow guides his clients on their unique journey to personal growth and well-being using a collaborative, exploratory, and goal-directed approach. By focusing as much on the development of personal strengths as on the alleviation of distress, he assists his clients to access their own inner capacity to grow and heal. Dr. Stolow tailors his treatment approach, respecting the wisdom, cultural background and lived experience of each client. Following a comprehensive initial consultation, a well-defined treatment plan is proposed. Clients are provided a clear path to their goals. Dr. Stolow creates a warm and compassionate environment, in addition to offering a keen ear and a deep well of experience to draw upon. Dr. Stolow works with adults and adolescents (15+) experiencing a range of difficulties across a broad spectrum of severity, including – but not limited to – low mood or depression, mania/hypo-mania, anxiety (such as persistent worry, social and/or performance anxiety, panic, obsessions and/or compulsions, trauma, and phobias). Other areas of expertise include identity issues, relationship difficulties/ruptures, life transitions, crises of meaning, anger/irritability, burnout, grief, and stress management related to work and daily living. Matters of a spiritual nature are also within his domain. Using a flexible, eclectic approach, he draws on best-practices from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindful Self-Compassion Therapy (MSC), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness-Informed Therapy, and Humanistic and Existential approaches. Dr. Stolow is a member of Mindspace’s Psychedelic Harm Reduction and Integration program (PHRI) and is able to support the mental health and well-being of clients who have had psychedelic experiences, and those who have intentions of exploring this pathway. Dr. Stolow is a licensed Clinical Psychologist and member of the Ordre des psychologues du Québec (OPQ). He obtained his PhD from Rutgers University and has provided diagnostic and treatment services in a variety of settings, including The Jewish General Hospital, Douglas Mental Health Institute, J.F.K. Hospital, and the Rutgers Psychological Services Clinic. He has advanced training in cognitive behavioural therapy, humanistic therapy, and mindfulness-based therapies. Dr. Stolow also obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Painting & Drawing) from Concordia University, valuing creativity and the process of crafting meaning in his clinical practice. His approach to therapy is practical, emphasizing the acquisition of skills that can be used outside therapy to maintain treatment gains and reduce vulnerability in the long term. His goal is to make himself obsolete to his clients.
